Nuzo
Pay, save, earn rewards & trade for Dollars
Nuzo began as Mauzo, a POS solution that helped Kenyan small-scale traders sell online. It later evolved into a wholesale supplier platform before pivoting again into Nuzo — a digital wallet for paying, saving, earning rewards, and trading using Digital Dollars. This journey reflects both product growth and my evolution as a designer.
Early Foundations
Mauzo (now Nuzo) was my first freelance UI/UX project after transitioning from graphic design over 5 years ago. I learned structured design methods, conducted live user interviews, and built flows that directly addressed user needs. These experiences gave me a foundation in user-centered design.
Pivoting the Process — Building A Structure
In the early stages, I designed without components, which quickly became unsustainable. This challenge led me to create the CAYG (“Create As You Go”) Design System — a flexible approach that let me build components as needed, streamline iteration, and prepare designs for scale.
Collaboration & Growth
Working closely with developers, I refined my handoff process by annotating designs and recording intended interactions. This bridged the gap between design and engineering, improving implementation and ensuring consistency.
Continuous Refinement
As Nuzo matured, user feedback became central to the process. The product reached a scale where input was constant, and my role was to distill insights, prioritize improvements, and keep the design aligned with real-world needs.
