ShortCap

AI-powered captions and voiceovers for content creators

The first version of ShortCap focused only on captions, but even a minimal product needed a brand identity. I designed a simple, clear, and recognizable logo that instantly communicated what the product does. As the product evolves, the brand will grow with it.

Designing The Brand

With the team at ProjectSet, we developed an unusual way of working, which suprisingly worked well for both of us. The team provided low-fidelity designs which I improved, refined and expanded into polished experiences. Their raw vision plus my execution resulted in a platform that was functional and elegant.

Exploring APIs & Researching The Competition

To shape the product’s UX, I dug into APIs more deeply than ever before — understanding endpoints, constraints, and opportunities. This informed both ideation and design decisions, ensuring the product was grounded in what technology could deliver.

I studied products like Caption.ai, Canva, and Veed.io, absorbing patterns, feedback, and design choices. This competitor analysis helped me build on proven ideas while finding opportunities to differentiate.

Building Captions

The first tool was designed to help creators move quickly from raw video to captioned content. Upload, auto-generate, edit, style, download — every step was streamlined to remove friction and keep the product clean, focused, and user-first.

Integrating HookSound's Music — Integrating The Services

To tie ShortCap back to HookSounds, I added the ability to browse and use HookSounds’ music directly within the captioning flow. Free tracks encouraged discovery while aligning business goals with user experience.

Extending to Text-to-Speech (Still in ideation)

After the MVP launch, we expanded ShortCap with a text-to-speech tool. This required rethinking the product structure — replacing the single captioning flow with a central lobby where users could choose tools. We also added project saving and retrieval, letting creators return to unfinished work for the first time.
